One of the challenges of student living is maximizing a small space on a budget, but it is possible!
When you know you won’t be living in a space long-term, there’s no point in investing in expensive storage solutions. Thankfully, there are ways to make your small space functional and pleasant with a few minor adjustments.
Go high and go low
Use your wall space for more than just artwork. Shelving can be a necessity for books and even in place of a nightstand. Be sure to ask your landlord before adding wall-mounted shelves, and be prepared to leave them behind when you move.
An over-the-bed shelving unit (similar to those you may have seen placed in a bathroom over a toilet) will give you some vertical storage without your having to mount anything directly into the wall.
If there’s space under your bed, use it. Use shoeboxes, a rolling wire cart or plastic bins to store shoes and sweaters.
Kitchen
Use the tops of your cabinets to store items that you don’t use every day, and double up your shelving space with wire shelf risers that are great for plates, plastic food containers and more.
